The New Tarot, The Values, The US Americans, Apollo's Ghost, Fox Hollow
Brooklyn-based The New Tarot are fronted by the fun and fierce feminist sisters Monika and Karen Walker. Oxfam is excited to welcome their refreshing brand of electrifying alternative indie pop. An issue near and dear to her heart, Monika says “We have a long way to go before we can say women are equal on all fronts, but I believe that with knowledge and dedication anything is possible. The more people talk about and pay attention and demand answers to these issues, the greater chance we have as a global community to solve them."
The Values understand there is a singular magic about the combination of synthesizers and the human voice. That mix of cutting edge technology and deep vulnerability, of digital sounds and flesh and blood, of sleek and portable, portable yet opulent. It’s a city sound, sexy and rich and forward moving. There’s nothing like it -- Suicide knew it in the grimy 70s. Yaz and Erasure knew it in the glossy 80s. LCD Soundsystem knows it in the 21st century. You can hear that on the Values’ first EP.
