Knitting Factory Presents
The Big Easy, Well Wisher, Sharkswimmer, Hypemom
Like so many forebears in punk and rock before them, three-piece Sharkswimmer formed their gritty, textural indie-punk sound in the depths of Brooklyn. The band’s main songwriter/guitarist/vocalist Justin Buschardt moved to the city in 2014 from Austin, Texas, where he cut his teeth as the front-person for post-hardcore group Inside Voices, which eventually became a touring project and a wellspring for new musical ideas. Upon moving to New York, however, his sense of artistic community had flagged. It wasn’t until he opened solo for Vinnie Caruana of Long Island punk mainstays The Movielife to a warm reception that his vision for Sharkswimmer began to crystallize: “That sort of pushed me to be like, Oh, shit, people seem to be into this thing that I’m doing by myself,” he says. “But I really want to be able to do it with a full band.”
3 EP's, tons of sweaty shows and a couple of changes in their lineup later, Sharkswimmer is now composed of bass player/vocalist, Dana Lipperman of Brooklyn art-rock band, Gorgeous, Jesse Reed on drums and Buschardt on vocals/guitar. They are set to record their first full length in Feb of 2022, showcasing their evershifting sound.
