“Wedding the brutal severity of Delta country boogie and SeventiesGerman pulse rock — all dead-ahead motion and mounting detail...Epic.”
— Rolling Stone
“Somewhere between Sonic Youth and Steve Reich is the drummer Jonathan Kane. Interested in the crossroads of new-music iconoclasm and experimental rock, he has a drummers sense of steady dynamic development and an unapologetic love of noise. Virtuosic” — New York Times
“The personal politics of American minimalism have long cried out for a barroom with sawdust on the floor where differences could be settled man to man; this record would be on the jukebox.” — Signal to Noise
"Brooklyn’s gruff-toned, swivel-hipped troubadour sounds as cuddly as a grizzly bear with a stubbed toe, but Saint Reid’s in your corner. That is, if your corner is full of tough broads and bastards, smooth whiskey, and shit-eating grins. Otherwise, do yourself a favor: Don’t bother this charming man."
-- Village Voice (Fury)
Helen Money is Alison Chesley, a Chicago based cellist who has become known for her unique sound and compelling stage performance. Using the tools of a lead guitarist, she channels her sensibilities and experience as a rock musician through a classical instrument. A founding member of Epic Records recording artist Verbow, Alison has opened for bands as diverse as Shellac, Earth, The Bad Plus, Hunn Huur Tu and KTL. She has also worked and recorded with musicians such as Bob Mould, Disturbed, Anthrax, Frank Orrall, Fred Lonberg-Holm and Mono, among others. In addition to her solo work, Chesley has composed music for film and dance, including the soundtrack to the award-winning documentary “Indestructible” and two major works for Chicago based Mordine and Company Dance Theater, “Quest” and “Time Stilled”. Her second album, recorded with Greg Norman at Electrical Audio and mixed by Sanford Parker at Semaphore Studios will be released on Table of the Elements this fall.
